Summer Is Here! Hope the year is off to a great start for all. This e-newsletter will serve as a way to keep you informed with updates from the field that show you how your generous donations are helping us to achieve our mission.

Quite a lot has happened since we opened The Foundation for Tomorrow Headquarters in Tanzania nine months ago. To see the visual story click here for our photo gallery.

Library DedicationBeginning 2008
January 6th marked the beginning of what we hope to be a monumental academic year for TFFT in Tanzania. With 28 returning scholarship students and the addition of 39 more, we are focusing on providing quality programming for these precious children to give them the best educational opportunities. As part of this, our new Library and Computer Center opened March 30th. Hunter Flint and Bayless Parsley, our tireless TFFT staff, have been working since July 2007 with the Fikiria Kwanza Academy, its students, the engineer, contractor and community to complete the structure. The Library is equip with computers and high-speed internet as well as 10,000 books that were recently donated by Scholastic Inc.

George BushPresident Bush visits with TFFT staff in Tanzania
In February of this year TFFT had the privilege to meet with President Bush in our home base of Arusha. Bush's six-day, five-country Africa visit made headlines across the globe. But it was in Tanzania that he seemed to receive his warmest welcome. For a President so often beleaguered by problems in the Middle East, it was a refreshing change of pace, this focus on the positive attributes of his administration. During this trip the MCC Accord was signed, and slated to provide the country with almost $700 million over the next five years -- money that is meant to improve the country's transportation network, secure reliable supplies of energy and expand access to clean and safe water. Also under this administration, the number of Africans receiving anti-retrovirals to fight HIV/AIDS has skyrocketed from 50,000 to more than 1.2 million. The fight against malaria, a less publicized yet more urgent issue, has also been aided by contributions made by Bush during his time in office. On this trip alone Bush's donated more than five million mosquito nets, enough for every Tanzanian child under the age of five. That’s definitely a start!

Growth
We continue to be excited about the growth and development of our program. The invitation is always open for those that want to travel to Tanzania to see firsthand what you are making happen. I’ve never seen a group of children so enthused, happy, and driven. And we have you to thank for that. For Bayless’s Tanzania blog click here.
