MeghannFratern Tarimo
Fratern Tarimo is TFFT’s Managing Director for Tanzania. In that role, he is responsible for the leadership and day to day direction of TFFT ‘s growing staff, volunteers and variety of foundation programs. One of his principle roles is to deepen and broaden vital national, regional and local alliances, including those in the government, health and education and corporate arenas.

Tarimo received a Bachelors of Science degree in chemistry from Gettysburg College in Gettysburg, PA. After earning his undergraduate degree in the United States, he worked as a lab technician at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore and then the U. S. National Institute of Health (NIH).

While Fratern appreciates the knowledge and experience he gained in the world of natural science, he came to realize that he would rather work with people than with chemicals. After observing the hardships and daily struggles of people in his community, Fratern was inspired to take his talents into public service. He returned home to Tanzania and volunteered for a variety of nonprofit organizations in the Kilimanjaro area where he had grown up. His long felt appreciation for how NGO’s help improve the standard of living in developing as well as developed countries, led Tarimo to return to the U.S. to further his education at the University of Delaware, School of Urban Affairs and Public Policy. His goal, to one day join and lead a non-profit organization.

Tarimo graduated with a Master of Public Administration with a concentration in Nonprofit Leadership in May 2009. In addition, Fratern received special training and was awarded a certificate of Nonprofit Management at the University of Delaware career enhancement program in Wilmington, Delaware.

While at the University of Delaware, Fratern was involved in a variety of initiatives including research and community service through the Center for Community Research and Service (CCRS). He directed the summer recreational programming for the City of New Castle, Delaware where he was responsible for developing recreational activities for all campers, as well as overseeing all financial and human resources record-keeping, and staff management. This deepened his interest in empowering children and helping them cope with the often daunting challenges of day to day life. Additionally, Fratern served for one year as a coordinator of the Innternationale House in Newark, Delaware.

Tarimo is the first born, was raised in Tanzania and has a black belt in Tae Kwon Do.
